Itsy Bitsy, the welsh pony

Itsy Bitsy is the pony. We dont know the name of the child.

Hi there my name is Itsy Bitsy. I had to go over the bridge about three years ago but Mom wanted to tell my story anyway and she got the VSquillion for me so we thought we should explain who I am.  We have always thought that this picture of my self and that little girl was very special.  Believe me, Mom did not know that little child was in the pasture with me. But I am such a nice pony that I didn't hurt her.

Now, for those of you that don't know what a pony is, we are measured at the point where our back turns into our neck and that is called our withers. We are measured in hands and a hand equals 4 inches. A horse is measured the same way and basically we are just little horses, not to be confused with miniature horses.  I am what is known as a Welsh pony which is a breed just like in cats or dogs. There are many breeds of ponies. I am also or I should say, when I grew up I was a small pony. A small pony cannot be over 12 and 1/2 hands which would be 50 inches tall.  If everyone is thoroughly confused, just say so, and I will write another post.

Here I am all grown up

So I was very special to my Mom because she had a pony whose name was Little Lola Lop and Tubby(Little Lola's nick name) was my pony Mom. Tubby was a super wonderful pony that taught many many little children how to ride and she would go to the horse shows and win ribbons all the time. So it took three years of  mating Tubby to my Daddy whose name was Smoketree Troubadour. And finally I arrived.

I was a super pony but never really got ridden much by little children which was really too bad.  My sister and I were with my human mom for 13 years and we had such a good life.  She could go on forever about all the ponies in her life. Lots and lots of problems but lots and lots of fun too.  So that is the short version of my story for now.

Awwww thank you for sharing Itsy Bitsy's wonderful life! She looked so tiny as a baby pony - so tiny she was the same height as the toddler in that pic! And she grew up to be a beautiful pony! I lover her squillion! And thanks for the info about how to measure horses - 50 inches tall is so sweet! take care x

A pony! Growing up, I wanted a horse more than anything--anything at all! There was a pony near me, and even though I wasn't allowed to go that far I always ended up there and never told anyone. Today Pepper and his barn are gone, but I walk the trails where it was and tell the stories of farms in our area before we got so developed. Children don't encounter horses and ponies like that anymore, and it's too bad. This is a lovely photo, though, really perfect.
