Lucky's Story

Hi there Lucky here. I have been here for almost two weeks now and this picture was taken when Mom took me outside because she thought it might make me feel better. I haven't felt good at all since I have been here. My first visit to the vet, I was tested for the FIV and all that stuff and it was all negative. I had a temperature so they gave me an anitbiotic shot. I also had many cuts probably from a cat fight.

So I was still acting puny over the week end, not interested in any toys or anything and would barely get up when Mom came into my room. So off the vet we went yesterday morning. I think they used every needle there on me. They stole my blood twice, took some kind of funny picture of my insides, and then gave me three shots. I feel like a pin cushion. Anyway, I am very very anemic, so all those shots are to help that condition. I also have to take pills twice a day but that isn't hard. Then they sent my bloods off to another place to be tested to see if I am producing red cells. If I am not, then we have a big problem. The vet is supposed to call my mom today.
A friend of Mom's told her not to give up on me right now. The vet kind of indicated that if I am not making red blood cells, then there isn't anything they can do for me. This is why we were asking for purrs yesterday. To put it mildly, Mom is upset. BUT, we are thinking positive, and I AM going to be all right.
All of you that left your purrs yesterday and last night, thank you so much from the bottom of my little cat heart.

UPDATE on LUCKY
The vet just called and said that Lucky is not producing red cells. So we are going to wait a week and retest his blood. I am NOT put him down unless he is super sick. So keep the prayers and purrs coming. Thanks so much.

Lots of luv and whiskery kisses from Hannah and Lucy xx xx
We don't know if your anemia is related to the Convenia shot you got, but our mom *has* read about other kitties to whom this has happened after getting the Convenia antibiotic injection. Rare, but it *can* happen. Just something for your mom to be aware of for the other kitties, just in case.
Regardless of the cause, we're purring and purraying you will be well!

Your Lucky would have to have a bone marrow aspirate done to determine whether or not his bone marrow is capable of producing red blood cells or not. If it is, Epogen (erythropoetin) may be able to be used to "jump start" his bone marrow production.
Sending healing vibes to your Lucky!
Lucky is a great name. I pray his gets past this too..he was lucky enough to find you.
