I talked to PayPal yesterday and I thought they were going to resolve the problem by giving me a personal account but now I dont know. I wrote to the compliance place and this is part of the response that I got.
PayPal permits donations to accounts that belong to verified non-profit organizations. PayPal also permits donations to the accounts of individuals or organizations that are authorized to fundraise on behalf of verified non-profit organizations.
Hi there, Mahoney here and Mom has this very strange thing here next to the chair where I nap sometimes.
Oh my COD, how did that happen. That paper just came shooting out of there. This is all so very strange.
Now just what does this paper say. Wish I could read those words but they probably don't say anything important cat wise.

Paypal - what a pain! I did set up an account there for a non-profit once, and you need to show them a lot of paperwork before it actually happens. I remember calling and being on the phone with them, it might be easier.

Grab that paper Mahoney! Hey, there are alternatives to PayPal. i had dinner with Lynn from PawPawty fame when she was in the states a couple of years ago and she warned me about PayPal. She recommended Just Giving, you might check them out. Maybe we need to mount a critter revolt!

You should talk to Mariodacat if you're having trouble with PayPal. He's done tons of ChipIns for friends who need it rather than non-profits. TW isn't on PayPal but we had problems setting up a ChipIn for A Call 4 Paws, who is. Whatever the snag is, I'm sure Mahoney can figure out a way around it. Maybe if the PayPal people see how cute she is, they'll melt and relent.

We are wondering what professionals writers will think of that. Many of them allow donations for their work rather than selling by subscription. I donate as I can and I would hate to have them not be able to do that. Of course, they do write very clearly why they have a donate button so perhaps that will be acceptable--as they say instead of charging, we accept donations so you can pay what you want.

Not sure how much help it will be, but looking around Paypal's Fundraising page and general acceptable use policies, we have not found any place where they say you have to be an 'approved' non-profit to raise money. For sure, you can create a Donate button without ever seeing any thing along those lines.
