Tabatha rolling around in that wonderful Nip.

Why in the world does cat nip make cats go nuts???

We love to roll around and play with toys that have cat nip attached to them. But why do we like this crazy stuff?? Is it harmful to us??

Catnip is a member of the mint family. It has an ingredient in it called nepacetalone and that is what makes us go slightly nuts sometimes. This particular ingredient pleasantly stimulates pheromone receptors in our noses. Sometimes too much catnip can make us a little bit aggressive, and so sometimes we will growl or hiss, so we probably shouldn't have too much of it. But we have never done that.

A lot of us don't even like cat nip. A bunch of my brothers and sisters don't give a hoot about it. But Tabatha thinks it is pretty neat.

The quality of catnip varies. If you can grow some of your own catnip which our mom wants to do, that is the best because then it is nice and fresh right from the garden. And it is the most effective and the most fun to play with. But dried catnip can be revived by crunching it between your hands to release the oils.

It is better for us to not have catnip every day because then the effect will begin to wear off and save the nip for us for a special occasion.

Tabatha was nice enough to perform for us with the catnip so our silly mother could get some photos of her acting silly. Too bad we don't have a video camera.
