Today is Tortie Tuesday

This is Splitters.
So we thought that one of our two Torties here should write a little post about our color. My name is Splitters because my mom is a little silly when it comes to naming us. My sister and brother and I were in this awful wood shed and our Mom came and fed us and eventually caught us. She sort of named us quickly because she was coming over at least 3 times a day to feed us and she had to call us something other then, ‘hey you'.
Our mother is a tortie too and she is a feral cat in capital letters.

So the color of a tortoiseshell is described as mottled with patches of orange or cream, chocolate, black or blue. And they are called torties for short. And they are almost always females. And if by chance they are males, they are usually sterile. And in some cultures, the torties and the calicos are believed to bring luck. Boy, I am glad to hear that.

And this is Splitters playing with a toy.

Sometimes you can have a "blue cream" (also called "blue tortie" or a "dilute tortie" is randomly patched all over with blue and cream. This is a soft Pastel color.

We don't think that the color tortie has a lot to do with their personality but we have heard that some of these cats have a tortitude. I don't think I have an attitude. I am just perfect. I do like to sleep with Mom sometimes but not all the time. I love being outside doing all the things that cats do. But Mom does think I am a pretty good cat so that is good.

And Please, Please, Please don't forget about Diamond and Lenox, the two cats that need a home and they need it together. Even though Lenox is blind, he is a wonderful cat.

Splitters you are a very pretty tortie girl! And don't worry, tortitude isn't always a bad thing!

We keep hoping that we will see some good news about Diamond and Lenox - we hope they find a good home soon!

Splitters, you are a beauty! I love your black and orange furs! So glad your mom got you and your siblings out of that shed and into her wonderful home.

I am a calico or sometimes called a tortie with white. I am packed with tortitude, just ask my mom and the other kitties who I like to boss around :)

It's good to know that torties and calicos bring good luck. Because I'm a tortie and my sister Miko is a calico.

Oh, Splitters,

You are looking pretty good there; you have beautifully interesting markings.

I don't believe I've seen a tortie quite like you.

I had a pretty little Tortoise Shell kitty once her name was Sheba, The Queen of Sheba actually. She had a lot of attitude. She would happily hide under various pieces of furniture and ambush any unsuspecting passerby by giving them a sound swat in the ankle, especially my kids. Scared the crap out of everybody all the time.

My kids didn't like her. And she didn't like them. But that might be because they use to dress her in doll clothes when she was a kitten and pushed her around in a doll stroller.

She was an indoor cat, we lived in an apartment, then we moved to a house. A few years back she got out of the house with no one knowing, in winter and we never saw her again. I was heart-broken, because she would always come and sit on my lap and curl up for hours while I was reading or watch TV. She was very beautiful I always think of her when I see another Tortie.

Splitters, you are a beautiful tortie! I enjoyed meeting you and hearing your story! And I agree that not all torties have tortitude cause I don't either!
