Fourth of July, Independence day

A very Happy Fourth of July to all of you from all of us. Hope everyone has a good one and stay nice and safe.

The Liberty Bell sounded from the tower of Independence Hall on July8, 1776, summoning citizens to gather for the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence by Colonial John Nixon.

June 14,1777, the Continental Congress, looking to promote national pride and unity, adopted the national flag. "Resolved: that the flag of the United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation."

The first public Fourth of July event at the White House occurred in 1804.

Before cars ruled the roadway, the Fourth of July was traditionally the most miserable day of the year for horses, tormented by all the noise and by the boys and girls who threw firecrackers at them.

Not being known for a big holiday celebrator, we will still have fam and food together today. What pissed me off was the neighbors deciding to celebrate last night with fireworks keeping me up until I couldn't take it anymore and called the sheriff...twice. Drinking, little kids and explosive devices...not a good combo!

Well I never thought about how it must have been for the horses...poor things it must have been terrifying. Speaking of, We are about a block away from the park where they set off fireworks, IT WAS AWFUL. The house was shaking, it was horrendously loud and all the kitties were afraid. Can't wait to move!
